Changes to Prescription Ordering from July 2018

Patient Information Leaflet

Following changes both County wide and with NHS services, Cam and Uley Family Practice is changing the way that prescription ordering is managed.

From September 1st 2018 are no longer able to accept your repeat prescription request slips from the pharmacy. We will be processing ‘On line’ and telephone requests using a new central dedicated Prescription Ordering Phone Line (POL) which accepts phone calls from patients, five days a week.

If the majority of your medication is obtained every 28 days, then we can send the pharmacy a ‘batch’ of your prescriptions which you can collect on a monthly basis. This is known as Repeat Dispensing (Pathfinder). A telephone call can be arranged with our Practice Pharmacist – Sarah Newey, to assess your suitability and explain this option further. Any infrequent items can still be ordered via telephone or online as detailed below.

Nominate a Pharmacy

The NHS and Doctors are encouraging patients  to nominate a pharmacy so that repeat prescriptions can be sent electronically direct to your chosen chemist. This is more efficient and much safer as paper prescriptions can go astray or be delayed.

Electronic prescriptions have a dedicated audit trail and can always be found and tracked.

To implement this, it would be appreciated if patients  could confirm their choice of local Pharmacy/chemist they would like to collect their repeat medications from in the future.

Please contact the Dispensary on 014538 860459 or alternatively, when you place your next repeat prescription order with the dedicated Prescription Ordering Line (0300 4211215) you can nominate your choice of pharmacy with them. Please note that this is a new number and not the POC (Prescription Ordering Centre) which has now closed.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Repeat Prescription Ordering Process

You can now use any of the following methods to order your medication:

  • Ring the dedicated Prescription Ordering Line:  0300 421 1215

  • Online by use of SystmOnline : Click on the SystmOnline icon on the home page

  • Nominate a pharmacy for Electronic Transfer of your prescription.

  • Please be aware that some medicines, for example controlled drugs, cannot be transferred electronically at the moment and so a paper prescription has to be generated.

Please order your repeat medication 7 - 10 days prior to running out.

Check with you local pharmacy how long it takes to get your medication ready after they receive the prescription.
